Verse 2.47

From Chapter 2 — The Yoga of Knowledge

Original text

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥

Translation

“You have a claim on action alone, never on its fruits. Do not act for the sake of the fruit, nor be attached to inaction.”

Source — Bhagavad Gītā 2.47 (traditional Sanskrit text). English rendering by Frenly Divine — a working translation, not an authoritative one.

Understand

What it is saying

Explanation — written by Frenly Divine, not scripture

The verse marks out what is genuinely ours: the quality of what we do. Results depend on far more than us. It is not an argument for indifference — the second half rules out withdrawal.

Why it matters

Most anxiety lives in the gap between effort and outcome. This verse locates responsibility precisely, and leaves the rest.
